There is something very unique about our long stitch journals:- the leather. They are made from the highest quality, vegetable-tanned goatskin, which we have dyed ourselves with vegetable dyes. It is a laborious process and to our knowledge, there is no one else in England who is offering journals made from leather coloured this way.
We offer the journals in three different colourways:
Pink-red, which has been dyed with Sappanwood;
Black, dyed with oak gall;
and Brown, dyed with Walnut.
The result of using this method is a weathered look to the leather, with all the texture of the material visible through it; a delightful waxy finish and a unique, aromatic smell. As they are used they will develop a lovely faded and worn-in feel.
As for the inside, there are eighty sheets of recycled, ivory laid writing paper, which has been stitched to the cover with linen thread. We have given each journal colourful endpapers made of our hand-blocked En Soleil paper. To continue the whole rustic feel, the journals are tied up with a hemp cord.
