The Martlet's traditional Iron Gall Ink is made to an 18th-century recipe and is formulated for use with dip pens and quills. This is the sort of ink that was in constant use from the Middle Ages until the 19th-century for documents and manuscripts. This calligraphy and writing ink is grey when first applied to paper, but will oxidise and darken to a deep black which permanently bonds to the paper. The water used in the current batch is drawn from a holy well or sacred spring in rural Wales called Ffynnon Gybi, or St Cybi's well.
NB. You can use this ink in a fountain pen, but you do so at your own risk and we advise that you wash out the pen thoroughly after each use, or it may corrode the nib.
Ingredients: Spring water, oak galls, copperas, gum arabic and clove oil.
