This is the earliest printed image of an Angler and is taken from 'A Treatise on Fysshynge with an Angle' written by Dame Juliana Berners. It was first printed in 1496 at the Sign of the Red Pale by Wynkyn de Worde, Caxton's pressman. As well as the fine woodcut of the Angler on the front, we have included an illustration from the treatise showing various lines, floats and hooks.
